Indians drop 6-4 decision to Colby at home

MCC baseball team drops 6-4 decision to Colby CC

The McCook Community College baseball team trailed 3-0 after two innings, and 6-1 after seven innings then mounted a comeback which came up short Monday in a 6-4 loss to Colby Community College at the Jaycees Sports Complex.
The Trojans got to MCC starter Connor McGonigal (Omaha Burke) for two in the first inning and added another in the second. The freshman went four innings allowed seven hits, two walks and struck out four.
The Indians got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Jason Hill (Surrey, British Columbia) doubled to lead off the inning, went to third on a bunt from Tanner Zeggil (Stagner, Ontario) and scored on a wild pitch.
Freshman pitcher Spencer Ray (Greeley, Colo.) came on in the fifth inning and pitched 2.2 innings before running into trouble in his third inning of work. He gave up three hits, two walks and three earned runs. Casey Quagliano (Colby, Kan.) went the final 2.1 innings allowing no hits or runs, walking three and striking out three.
Trailing 6-1 in seventh inning with one out, Michael Sookdeo (Brampton, Ontario) was hit by a pitch and scored on a double off the bat of Chris Bellemare (Grande-Carriere, Quebec). A balk sent Bellemare to third and he scored on an RBI-groundout from Mathew Tremblay (Saint Charles, Quebec) to make it a 6-3 game.
Freshman Beau Hawley (Greeley, Colo.) singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning, went to second on a bunt by Julio Seperich (Las Vegas, Nevada), advance to third on a Jason Hill groundout to first base and scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-5 but the Indians went down in order in the ninth inning.
MCC was held to six hits on the day with a pair from Hawley, doubles from Jill and Bellemare, and singles by Zeggil and Sookdeo.
The Indians fall to 11-23 and will take on Western Nebraska at home Wednesday in a 1 p.m. game. On Friday MCC travels to Sterling, Colo., for a game with Northeastern Junior College then return home for a three game-set with the Plainsmen starting Saturday and continuing Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. part of "Fan Appreciation Day" sponsored by the MCC Indians Boosters Club which will serve free hot dogs and potato chips to those in attendance as a 'Thank You' to those Indians fans who have supported MCC athletics throughout the 2017-2018 school year.
