MCC drops pair of Sunday baseball games

NJC sweeps MCC in pair of Sunday games.

STERLING, Colo. Northeastern Junior College downed the McCook Community College baseball team in a doubleheader Sunday winning the first game 12-2 in six innings and taking the second game 6-4. MCC had 16 hits in the two games all singles.
The two teams will continue the three-game series with a nine-inning game Monday in Sterling. Colo. starting at noon. The Plainsmen are 18-19 on the season.
MCC Falls to 12-26 on the season and will return home Tuesday against Southeast Community College for at 2 p.m. then travel to Miles City, Mont., to play doubleheaders Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
GAME 1: Northeastern Junior College 12, MCC 2: In the first game the Plainsmen kept the offense cranking scoring at least one run in the first four innings to take an 8-0 lead off Indian starter Jacob Lombardelli (Windsor, Colo.) who allowed nine hits and two walks in his 3.1 innings of work.
MCC came back with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Beau Hawley (Greeley, Colo.,) singled to lead off the inning, followed by a one-out single off the bat of Jason Hill (Surrey, British Columbia). Jake Sanford (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) drove home Hawley with a two-out single and Michael Sookdeo (Brampton, Ontario) followed with an RBI single to make it 8-2.
After failing to score in the bottom of the fifth, the Plainsmen ended the game on the 10-run rule with four in the sixth inning. Spencer Ray (Greeley, Colo.) pitched 2.1 innings, allowed three hits, four walks and four earned runs. Kaden Sitzman (McCook) allowed a hit and a walk in the sixth inning.
Eight of the nine in the MCC batting order had hits all eight were singles.
GAME 1: Northeastern Junior College 6, MCC 2: NJC starter Graham Cahill kept the Indian offense off the board until the final at bat. Up 2-0 after scoring a pair of runs in the first inning, the Plainsmen used a third-inning home run by Ben Newton to take a 4-0 lead and a sixth inning home run by Russell Strilchuk extend it to 6-0.
Connor McGonigal, (Omaha Burke) gave up seven hits, one walk and three earned runs in the loss. He struck out two.
The Indians led off the seventh with four consecutive singles to light the scoreboard then scored the second run on a double-play.
MCC out-hit the Plainsmen 8-7 with Michael Sookdeo and Chris Bellemare (Grande-Carriere, Quebec) with two each, and singles from Jason Hill, Tanner Zeggil (Stagner, Ontario), Dalton Bartling (Ashland, Neb.) and Jacob Reid (Mississauga, Ontario) with one each.
