MCC drops Monday game at NJC
Indians lose Monday; drop three-game set to NJC
The McCook Community College Indian baseball team dropped the third game of a Sunday-Monday series against Northeast Junior College, and got swept with a 9-4 loss.The Cougars came out with seven runs in the first off Indian starting pitcher Jesse Bloom (Centennial, Colo.) then added two more in the second inning off reliever Casey Quagliano (Colby, Kan.) to lead 9-0.
MCC came up with a run in the third. Hunter Rynders (Centennial, Colo.) was hit by a pitch, went to second on a Jake Sanford (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) single and scored on a Michael Sookdeo (Brampton, Ontario) single.
Ryan Marstiller (Centennial, Colo.) finished the game with six relief innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
Jacob Reid (Mississauga, Ontario) and Beau Hawley (Greeley, Colo.) singled to lead off the fourth inning, advanced on a Tanner Zeggil (Stagner, Ontario) bunt and scored the first run on a passed ball and the second on a Jason Hill (Surrey, British Columbia) groundout.
A Chris Bellemare (Grande-Carriere, Quebec) home run in the fifth inning was the final run of the game for either team.
Dalton Bartling (Ashland, Neb.) and Jacob Reid both had two hits each.
The Indians out-hit NJC 10-5, but three MCC errors led to three unearned runs.
The Indians fall to 12-27 on the season.
MCC returns home for a Tuesday game with Southeast Community College. The start time for the nine-inning game was pushed back to 3 p.m.
This weekend the Indians travel to Miles City, Mont. for a six-game series.
