Indians winless in Montana after double loss Sunday
MILES CITY, Mont. The McCook Community College baseball team dropped a pair of games Sunday to Miles Community College 6-5 and 3-1 as the Pioneers complete a six-game weekend sweep over the Indians.The Indians fall to 13-33 after the weekend.
This week MCC will travel Norfolk for a game with Northeast Community College Wednesday, then return home Friday for a makeup game with Northeastern Junior College in a nine-inning game starting at 1 p.m. On Saturday MCC goes to Scottsbluff for a nine-inning game followed by a Sunday doubleheader.
The final home contest for MCC will be May 2 when the Indians host NJC in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
GAME 1: Miles CC 6, McCook CC 5: The Indians came back from a five-run deficit in the fifth inning but the comeback fell short as Miles City pushed across what would be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Trailing 5-0 in the fifth, Dalton Bartling (Ashland, Neb) led off the inning with a triple and Tanner Zeggil (Stagner, Ontario) doubled him home. Beau Hawley's (Greeley, Colo.) single drove home Zeggil to pull the Indians within three runs at 5-2.
In the sixth inning MCC took advantage of a pair of one-out errors and a Zeggil single to load the bases. Jacob Reid (Mississauga, Ontario) came on to deliver a pinch-hit two-run single and Zeggil tied the game on a passed ball.
Miles scored in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out single.
Jesse Bloom (Centennial, Colo.) took the loss for the Indians allowing seven hits and five runs in four innings of work. He fanned three. Casey Quagliano (Colby, Kan.) went the final two innings allowing one earned run and three hits.
MCC had five hits. Dalton Bartling tripled, Zeggil doubled and singled, and the Indians got singles from Beau Hawley, Jacob Reid.
GAME 2: Miles CC 3, McCook CC 1: Miles Community College scored two runs in the third inning on a Will Riley home run and added one in the fourth to give Pioneer pitcher Luke Turner all the support he needed to complete the six-game sweep.
Jason Hill, (Surrey, British Columbia) and Tanner Zeggil led off the sixth inning with back-to-back walks and put up a run on an infield error but managed just three hits in the game a pair of singles off the bat of Johnny Giunta (Milton, Ontario) and one by Hill
Tyler Cox (Mississauga, Ontario) started the game for the Indians. He went the distance allowing three hits and three runs. He walked six and struck out six.
