Indians claim 13-4 win at Norfolk

NORFOLK -- Sophomore Jake Sanford (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) doubled three times and homered Wednesday to lead McCook Community College to a 13-4 win over Northeastern Community College.
Sanford, who will play baseball next season at Division 1 Western Kentucky, doubled in the first, fourth and eighth innings and banged a two-run home run in the ninth inning to pace the 20-hit McCook attack.
MCC scored five times in the second inning to take the lead but Northeastern pushed a run in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth to make it a 5-4 game until the seventh inning. That's when MCC struck for four runs capped -- by a two-run home run off the bat of Johnny Giunta (Milton, Ontario). The Indians added two each in the eighth and ninth innings.
Freshman Shaun Hickey (Summerville, New Brunswick) started for MCC and was the winning pitcher surrendering four runs and five hits over 4.2 innings. Braydon Peif (Greeley, Colo.) came on to finish out the fifth inning and turned the ball over to Ryan Marstiller (Centennial, Colo.) who picked up the save over the final four innings allowing just one hit and striking out three.
The Indians had six players with three hit-games led by Sanford's four hits, 10 total bases and four RBIs.
Michael Sookdeo (Brampton, Ontario) doubled and singled twice with three with two RBIs. Chris Bellemare (Grande-Carruerem Quebec) doubled and singled twice with an RBI and two runs scored. Johnny Giunta (Milton, Ontario) hit a home run and two singles with two RBIs. Beau Hawley (Greeley, Colo.) and Tanner Zeggil (Stagner, Ontario) each had three hits.
