Indians drop 92-82 decision at Lamar Community College
LAMAR, Colo. The Lamar Community College men downed McCook Community College Friday night 92-82.The two teams were tied at 35-35 with one minute left in the half when Lamar went on an 8-1 run to close out the half to lead 43-36 and rode the momentum with hot second-half shooting, out-scoring the Indians 12-0 from the 3-point line.
LeTre Darthard, freshman from Denton, Texas scored 21 points and six rebounds to lead MCC in both categories.
Raheim Sullivan (Toronto, Ontario) sophomore transfer from Moberly Area Community College had 17 points and freshman Denzel Cummins (Oshawa, Ontario) scored nine points off the bench.
The Indians shot 53.8 percent in the first half, 47.8 percent in the second half and 51.0 percent for the game. From the 3-point line, MCC was three of 11 for the game for 27.3 percent and took 40 free throws, making 28 (70 percent).
The Running Lopes shot the ball from the field at 51.7 percent -- including a 16 of 27 performance from the second half (59.3 percent). That included going 10 of 19 from the 3-point line (52.6 percent). LCC was 22 of 29 from the foul line (75.9 percent).
Oscar Maldonado led the Lopes in scoring with 27 points including a five-for-nine night from the 3-point line.
On the boards, Laramie County held the edge 34-28.
MCC falls to 9-12 overall and 1-5 in the Region IX south division. Lamar improves to 12-10, and 3-1 in the south division.
MCC travels to Sterling, Colo., Tuesday to play Northeastern Junior College (16-6, 4-0 in Region IX south play heading into the weekend.)
On Friday MCC is back in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center to face Western Nebraska (14-7, 4-0), at 7:30 p.m. and then host Central Community College (13-10) Saturday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m. for the annual Blue-Out games to raise money and awareness for children with disabilities. MCC spring royalty will also be announced at that game.
