MCC’s Madara Liepniece wins player of the week award

McCook Community College sophomore Madara Liepniece has been named the Region IX Player of the Week.

In MCC's first three games the 5-7 point guard from Riga Latvia averaged 19.3 points, and seven rebounds per game, shooting 42 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line.

She scored 20 points with four rebounds against North Platte, 25 points and 13 rebounds against Laramie County and 13 points with four rebounds against Eastern Wyoming.

Through four games, she's third in the Region IX South among scoring at 16.8 points per game, she's fourth in 3-point percentage at 42.1 percent and seventh in rebounds at 6.0 per game.

MCC is 3-1 to start the season and is home tonight at 7 p.m. against Concordia JV and home again Tuesday against Hastings College JV.
