MCC volleyball taking registration for summer camps June 21-24

The McCook Community College volleyball program is taking registration for seven summer camps for those in kindergarten through high school age. The camps are set for June 21-24 at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center. Also an injury prevention camp is set for June 22-24 for all for male and female athletes ages 12-18.

These camps, under the direction of MCC Coach Hayley Kobza, include an experienced staff at a great facility, camp T-shirts, individual camp awards, and free entry into the Wild West All-Star Volleyball Classic June 26 at 5 p.m.

Kobza is heading into her seventh year at MCC. She has led MCC to three Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference championships, has been named NCCAC Coach of the year three times and has sent 25 players on to four-year schools. She picked up her 100th career win this past season and has coached the team to a 111-99 record, averaging 20.6 wins over the past six seasons.

Former MCC standout Hannah Emerson came back as an assistant coach in 2021. The 6-2 blocker was among the top 10 blockers in the nation while on campus. After walking on at MCC and earning a scholarship she went on to play at NCAA Division I Coastal Carolina. During her senior year, she also worked as a strength and conditioning intern with the Chanticleer football team.

MCC volleyball players featured at this year's camp include: Anna Williams, Jisell Chumacero, Makayla Brown, McKenna Crews, Victoria Thomas, Greta Bolognini, Gabby Caskey, Jordan Duzenack, Jessie Jerome, Alexis Pontine, Fernanda Merancio, Gracen Tuttle, and Glorya Carr.

Sessions 1-3 are for students entering ninth through 12 grade, and will be June 21.There is a setting session from 9 a.m.-noon ($40), a hitting session from 10:30-noon ($30) and a defensive session from 1-2:30 p.m. ($30.)

Session 4, June 22, is for those entering kindergarten through second grade and goes from 9 a.m.-noon. Cost is $25.

Session 5, is a day-and-a-half camp for those entering sixth through eighth grade. It starts at 1 p.m. June 22 and goes through 4 p.m. with the June 23 session going from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost for this session is $80.

Session 6, is June 24 for those entering third through fifth grade and goes from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $40.

For the day-long camps June 21, 23 and 24, campers will have a lunch break from noon-1 p.m. and may go out to eat or bring lunch.

In addition to volleyball, there is an Injury Prevention Camp June 22-24 from 4:30 p.m.-6 p.m. each afternoon at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center. This is for all athletes ages 12-18. Training will include body and jump mechanics, plyometric drills, strength graining, balance awareness, rotator cuff and scapular mechanics, and for overhead athletes, a progression of strengthening session.

Cost for this camp is $60. MCC Volleyball is partnering with Elevate Wellness, who will help conduct the camp, open to all male and female athletes.
